fatty fish, not fatty crab, no relation

I finally walked north of the bridge, got me a pillow and decided to get a quick bite for lunch.

I had bulgogi filet mignon sliders from Fatty Fish I also had salad and two pieces of sushi (hamachi belly and super white tuna [escobar]). I saved the sesame fries that came with for the boy.

The sliders are on king's hawaiian bread. The sliders with salad/soup and fries are only 11 bucks at lunch, pretty good deal.

As for the sushi, I coulda done without the "decorative" celery leaf because it made the sushi taste like celery leaf and that is a big no no for me.

blue ribbon sushi

So I had Tuesday off and decided we'd go to blue ribbon sushi.

I demanded we have the hamachi kama and after he tasted it he knew why. It was delicious, though a bit too salty for him (not for me! mwahahaha!) I'm a lemon fiend so I craved more lemon to squeeze over it. (There were two other pieces but we swooped before I remembered to bring out the camera.)

Next we shared a sashimi & sushi platter which only had 2 roll choices? Seriously?!?! 2? It was just spicy tuna and California roll. I was disappointed. Even Hatsuhana around my office has more choices for rolls that come with your selection.

I saw that they had poached lobster on the menu and was hoping it was just a bit because I wanted to try the miso butter but wasn't quite hungry enough to have a whole lobster on top of the sushi. Wrong.. so we asked them to put some of the butter on two lobster sashimi (it was cooked), but not only did they not do that: the lobster was rubbery.

Everything else in the set was awesome though. I ordered an o-toro sushi piece and the waiter recommended something to him that I've completely forgotten. It's right between the o-toro and the lobster in the picture though.

We had the green tea creme brulee for dessert, but I forgot to take a picture.

He ninjaed most of the sugar on top anyway.

Blue Ribbon Sushi on Urbanspoon

another yummy box from yasuda

I picked the special where you get 12 pieces of sushi and a half roll. My half roll was salmon skin (and kinda too salty)

The eel was delicious, the uni was very fresh and the rest was awesome too! I forgot all I ordered though.

I think there was bonito, 2xsalmon, yellowtail, tuna, shrimp, freshwater eel, spanish-mackerel, sea trout, striped bass and rainbow-trout but don't quote me on the last two.

I wanted butter-fish but they were out.

Sushi Yasuda on Urbanspoon

Sushi Yasuda... eh

So I got their takeout and can't directly compare an order of takeout to an omakase, but I can do take out to take out.

For the same price as that huge thing of sashimi at Umi sushi (and a lil bit more). I got this.

First, the salad.

The salad looks delicious upon first glance. Upon first taste it was very salty. Instead of the normally sweet sesame ginger dressing this one was quite salty.

Then there was the crunch.

After taking a few chopsticks-full of sushi I looked in the bowl to discover these little fishy larvae creepy-if-you-think-about-what-you're-eating-too-long things.

I ate it anyway. meh

Now onto the sushi and sashimi.

I was so excited to get to them that I kinda forgot to take a picture till I'd cleared out a roll and 2/3 types of sashimi. I'll leave you to imagine the beauty of an untouched box.

So... I've also decided that I like it when the restaurant gives you their house soy mixed instead of the little packets of red Kikoman that are too salty to put near rice. I didn't use much at all because of this and it was harsh if I missed the fish and hit the rice.

The wasabi was grainy which I guess means rustic and homemade, but to me it was a little gritty on the tongue.

The ginger was very fresh.

The rice was excellent.

The fish was very fresh and tasted like it should. I didn't expect anything less.

I'd still rather go to Asabu for as much seared otoro, Spanish mackerel and salmon as I could eat.

What's with every upscale sushi place having something that stares me in the eyes?

umi sushi, more bang for your buck

This place is awesome. Where else can you get 27 pieces of sashimi for 24 bucks + tax and have it taste delicious?

No, really, tell me cause I'd like to go there too!
